Saying Goodbye

Have you ever tried to say goodbye
Without saying goodbye?
To say how much you’ll miss a person
Without saying a word?
To hold back tears and be polite
When inside you want to cry?
To part with a part of yourself deep inside
But never bring up the hurt?

Have you ever tried to say farewell
Without saying farewell?
To act okay when they leave
When inside it’s tearing you apart?
To stay strong and happy and make them laugh
When you want to scream and yell?
To make memories for them that they’ll carry forever
And hope they’ll heal your hurting heart?

Have you ever tried to let go of someone
Without truly letting go?
To know that holding on is foolish
But you can’t seem to release your grip?
To watch them leave and realize that
They’ll never know how much they meant?
To live every day wondering if they’ll forget you
And know that you can never forget them?

Have you ever tried to say goodbye
Without saying goodbye?
