A Self Examination

She’s the girl who has a loving mother;
She’s the girl with a father who cares.
She’s the girl whose parents think she's perfect.
She’s the girl that everyone compares.

She’s the girl who does whatever you ask.
She’s the girl who does nothing wrong;
She’s the girl who follows the rules.
She’s the girl who pretends to be strong.

She’s the girl who isn’t good enough;
She’s the girl that cannot fit in.
She’s the girl who tries her hardest,
but ends up failing in the end.

She’s the girl that parents continue
to compare their children to.
She’s the girl who has lost many friends
when there was nothing she could do.

She’s the girl who everyone looks at
with annoyance and jealousy.
Yet she is left alone and wondering,
“What is wrong with me?

I am a girl who loves to sing.
I am a girl who likes to cook.
I am a girl who has insecurities,
but writes them away in my book.

I am a girl who loves to play guitar.
I am a girl who loves to dream.
I am a girl who loves spending time with children.
I am a girl who looks past what people seem.

I am a girl who wants to give people hope;
I am a girl who wants to spread joy.
I am a girl who wants to be a friend,
to help people survive and enjoy.

I am a girl who is tough and faithful,
I am a girl who fights and never gives in.
I am a girl who stands up for what I believe,
I am a girl who is joyful within.

I am strong and independent,
yet I am gentle like a lamb.
I am made imperfectly perfect;
I am beautiful as I am.”
