Selfie Culture

Strip me of my Internet personality,
I am still beautiful inside and out,
Strip me of my makeup and filters,
I am not any less of the girl you see before you.

Because it's not my filters,
My makeup, my clothes, or my nails,
What matters is my spirit,
And if in my photos it's unveiled
Every like I get isn't as important as the unconditional love that I share with myself.
Because it is confidence that keeps this girl loving herself.

And yes, they will call me vain,
They'll call me a narcissist for loving who I am,
As if I need some sort of validation from a man,
I am mine before I am anyone else's
So every selfie is middle finger to anyone that's ever called me worthless.

I've got heaven under my fingertips,
I've got stardust in my teeth,
And I can turn off the filter when I want,
And I'll still be me.
