Seperate Minds
Location
9 years old with two seperate minds
A teacher who could read any disguise
Gave me a book to look through Dickinson's eyes.
Reading a poem a day for nearly two years
flipping page after page, searching for answers.
"She was just like you" she said. And it hit me
and the wall surrounding my two minds crumbled.
I had to write to stop the madness, to stop
the now fleeting feelings of anger and distrust.
Written on pages and pages
were words. Expressing the same feelings
over and over again in so many different ways.
And I felt it.
The freedom which can only be felt through expression.
The expression of love and happiness, anger and depression.
the expression of myself
and my combined minds.

I love this poem, especially because it connects new and classic poets (yourself and Dickinson). Each person who reads or writes poetry has gone through some sort of experience which draws them to this type of work. Thanks for sharing your story, and keep writing! Have you ever written an ode?
