Shards of the Future

Shards of the Future

we start life with our parents

planning our futures

for us.

we grow

up

learning to stand

and speak

for ourselves.

then

being told

we need to

sit

and keep

our mouths

shut.

we are expected to

know

what we want

and strive for it.

and stand

against obstacles

in our way.

we are told

to stay strong.

but never

taught how.

i find myself

stretching

reaching out

with

both hands

grasping

like a child.

wanting

needing

someone to pick me up.

and finding

no one.

i find

myself

wanting to

Slit

My

Wrists

with the

shards

of what

is left

of my dream

the shards

i grasp

so tightly

they

dig into

my palms.

i started

my life

with

endless support

and find

none

when i

need it

the most.
