She's Probably Just Another Angry Feminist, Anyway

The difference is a letter

Or a chromosome, really

It’s a variable, it’s chance

By biology, a 50/50 split

XX = XY

It’s not biology

It’s society

I am a female; I am told I am lesser

I am told I am subordinate

XX < XY

“I still remember

The year I ran on the coed varsity track team

‘Girls are weak, slower than molasses’

I lost every race.”

XX < XY

“I still remember

The month I ran against seven boys for student council

‘No one’s going to elect a girl as president’

I lost the election.”

XX<XY

“I still remember

The day I became Cum Laude

‘You’re smart for a girl, but you won’t be first rank’

I lost the number one spot.”

XX<XY

“I still remember

The hour I decided to be myself

‘Don’t dress like that, guys don’t find it attractive’

I lost my appeal.”

XX < XY

“I still remember

The moment I said no

‘Oh come on; all girls say that, but they want it’

I lost my purity.”

XX < XY

Don’t ask me

What I want to change in the world

Instead ask me

What I need to change in the world

XX < XY

And I need not tell you the answer

It’s in the words around you

Boss becomes bossy, focused is obsessed

Smart becomes know it all, attractive is egocentric

XX < XY

And I need not tell you the answer

238 years since the country was founded

44 presidents in its history

0 women in office

XX < XY

And I need not tell you the answer

It’s in the law of the government

Well, actually it’s not

Women are not guaranteed equality with men

XX < XY

And I need not tell you the answer

Society is wrong

Our duties as citizens are incomplete

We must continue to fight until

XX = XY
