A Single Spark

One day I awoke

from my mindlessness

and I found within me

something.

“You’re nothing special -

you’re lousy! Inferior!”

Mocked a biased voice

from inside of my head.

But cautious and careful I

moved past the the words,

and at once I uncovered

a spark.

In amazement I watched it,

gave it oxygen to grow,

and observed as it spread -

my spark became a wildfire.

My spirit aflame, I

can now see myself as I am.

I am power, I am strength, I am special,

I am flawless.
