The Small Things

Sometimes days pass by

And they are almost unbearable

Weighing you down with the force of the world

Like your back’s about to break

There are just so many things to be worried about

Getting a job so you can have food for tomorrow

Getting an A on that test you studied hours for

Getting home safely because there are so many dangers out there

And you’re almost unable to think

Almost unable to breath

Almost unable to move

Almost unable to live

But these dark days don’t last forever

Eventually the sun shines through the blackened storm clouds

Sending rays of happiness down to earth

Eventually flowers poke through the snow

Signifying that life is returning to the world

And that’s when you realize that the importance of the small things

Each small thing that brings happiness is like

One single ray of sunlight shining through the clouds

Or one flower poking up through the snow

Eventually these little things add up

That beautiful sunset you saw with your friend

Hearing your favourite song on the radio

Finding the perfect place to read a good book

Sharing a great joke and laughing with friends

These small things start to make a difference in life

Soon all of the rays of light burst through the dark clouds

Soon all of the flowers pop up and the snow disappears

Soon the small pieces of happiness overcome the darkness

And you push away all of the worries in your life

Because why should I be worried about getting a job

When there’s a little puppy running around making me smile

And why should I be worried about getting one A

When there’s a great movie on I can watch with my family

There are so many reasons life is great

No matter how small they are

But it’s the small things that add up

To take away the darkness

So why should I be so concerned about reasons life sucks

When there’s so many reasons life is worth living
