Society's Chameleon

Location

I'm custom-built to expectation
A situational chameleon
But no one knows,
Because what they see is only what I show them

I know it shouldn't be this much work,
Projecting an image of being "okay"

Be yourself, they tell me.

I can't be myself
Because that girl is a disaster.
She has anxiety attacks
She binges and restricts
She harms herself
She sinks into a depressive state
She's moody and selfish and destructive in her mind

People don't like that.

They prefer a projected image:
put-together, cheerful, kind and compassionate
No questions asked.

If I let down the mask, I will let down everyone
