We don’t always want

What we desperately need,

Because society today

Dictates our hopes and dreams.

 

What is society?

It’s a group of ideas that pressure us

Into changing ourselves

For “standards” that no one actually values.

 

We don’t need to be skinny

Or drowning in money

To be happy in life,

Though that’s what we’ve been taught to believe.

 

We all feel the stress

And hide our true feelings

While yearning for perfection

Just to feel some sort of acceptance.

 

We all have our secrets

We don’t want to share,

But if all our secrets got out

Would anyone care?
