Some Lessons in "Plus"

Keep your hair and clothes looking orderly.

When someone says you’re pretty “for a fat girl”, giggle.

Chewing gum

Like juicy fruit during the day

Keeps the jaw working and distracts

From any desire to eat.

When your thin friends go shopping, learn to

“play Barbie” with them. When they find a plus sized section,

Try not to feel bitter. When you realize all your clothes look like shower curtains,

Quiet your personality to make up for the clothings’ loudness.

Own the word fat rather than using phrases like

“bigger” or “plus size”, you’ll feel more ownership of self

And find the ways those terms weaken you.

Quit

Laughing, even if its just a quiet

One. Loud guffaws just draw attention and its better

To hide than deal with the added weight of their eyes.

Wearing Men’s clothes doesn’t

Carry the stigma that it used to.
