As I watch their energy burst in the mornings, my energy surely but slowly surfaces

As I teach them something and they grasp the concept, peacefulness overwhelms us both

As I watch their smiles widen when I show them candy, my smile widens

As I tell them that lunch is almost ready, their energy is once again replenished

As I play forts and castles with them, I forget what time it is

As I push them on swings outside, their unexplainable sad tears vanish

            Something about that gives me hope

As I have them discuss what they’re thinking, it always makes me laugh

            Something about that gives me hope

As I make dinner for them, their happiness becomes unconsciously addicting

            Something about that gives me hope

As I watch them pick out bedtime books, it makes me want to pick one out too

            Something about that gives me hope

As I tell a story and it interests me, it interests them more

            Something about that gives me hope

As I watch their quiet eyes close, it makes me wish to be a kid again for one day

And something about that gives me hope.
