Somewhere Out There

Somewhere out there

A baby has just been born

and the mother and the father both weep

and kiss as they say

look at the miracle that we have created

Somewhere out there

a disease has been cured

or has gone away

no longer wreaking havoc inside of the body

it once inhabited

and that person can

breathe easier tonight

Somewhere out there

a child who found it better to keep quiet

has stood up to a bully and decided that

enough was enough

that they weren’t going to be someone to stomp on

anymore

Somewhere out there

one and one

thinking they would be alone forever

have become two

and find solace in having their best friend by their side

forever

Somewhere out there

someone has taken the gun out of their mouth

put the pills down

thrown out the razors and the scale

realizing that tomorrow will be a better day

and that their depression, anxiety, mental illness

will not win today

Somewhere out there

a person finally knows exactly what they’re going to

write, read, paint, sing, play

because

somewhere out there

inspiration has been found

in the clouds    in the way loved ones breathe       in God

in the scars that aren’t visible            in the sunset          in music        in the sea

Somewhere out there

someone has met their favorite band, author, actor, painter

and through tears or smiles

can give them the ‘Thank You’ they have always wanted to give

for changing their lives

Somewhere out there, be it today, tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year

people are waking up to start their day

parents are telling their children that they’re proud of them

women are standing next to men finally equal

people are dancing

someone is adopting their first puppy

fish are swimming

birds are singing

the sun is rising

and setting

dreams are being realized

jobs that are hated are being quit

while someone is working for the fist time

diseases are being cured

hugs are being given and received

we aren’t being judged over

matters of opinion or clothing

soldiers are coming home

music is being enjoyed

people are falling in love

students are winning scholarships

kids are graduating

children are aspiring

history is being made

people are proud to be who they are

and right now

some of my fellow human beings

are reading this and realizing

that there are countless things

taken for granted everyday

that are someone’s reason to

live, look forward to the future, be grateful for every today

and you cannot look me in the eye and say

“That isn’t awesome”

because

you know

and

I know

that’s a lie

everything is ten times more amazing

than you ever dreamed

and

all of that ‘everything’

is

awesome
