Stage Fright

Location

The stage lights black out

The music soars.

The curtain falls.

The crowd roars.

Just take your bow.

And smile wide.

And shake the hands.

And share your side.

There were no mistakes.

There were no missed cues.

The best run yet.

You can't refuse.

Fold up the costumes.

Collect your things.

Thank the set crew.

Give back the rings.

Hug the director.

Salute good night.

Get in the car.

Turn on the light.

Wipe off the lipstick.

Turn on the car.

Drive to the house.

Leave no door ajar.

Feel immense comfort.

Lying in bed.

The queen six times murdered.

The king six times dead.

The show is now finished.

The verse shall be gone.

Only then comes the stage fright.

About how you'll go on.
