Sticks and stones may break our bones

Pointless arguments spark,
Anger seethes and burns,
Words flung solely for pain.
Holding mistakes above us,
To be rubbed in our faces.
Forgiven but not forgotten.

I never wanted to hurt you,
But at this moment,
I make your heart ache,
And your eyes swell.
Your face splotchy red,
You catch your breath,
Wounded.
But not of body,
Of mind.
Of heart.
And of soul.
Where the words never stop repeating,
And their sting doesn't fade.

I had no idea,
My words would be permanent.
