Sticks & Stones; An Original Poem About Bullying

Sticks And Stones

An Original Poem About Bullying

When I was little,
They told me to say:
“Those sticks and stones
May break my bones,
But your words will never hurt me.”
And I complied.

As I grew older,
Maybe a little wiser,
Still, they told me to say:
“Those sticks and stones
May break my bones,
But your words will never hurt me.”
And still, I complied.

Now I’m quite a bit older,
Definitely a bit wiser,
And, still, they tell me to say:
“Those sticks and stones
May break my bones,
But your words will never hurt me.”
But I no longer comply.

Because now I know:
“Those sticks and stones
May break my bones,
And your words can always hurt me.
And I also know
That I have the POWER TO CHOOSE!
And I choose to let it go.
Because
I
am
a
SURVIVOR!
