The Story of Apollo's Prophecy
This is the tale of a man who knew nothing.
He answered a riddle upon his coming.
To Thebes he returned, now pronounced king.
Killer of his father, such a dreadful thing.
The oracle of Apollo spoke his word.
The plague of Thebes was caused by an unknown murderer.
Banishment with isolation was the punishment.
Due to the one who took previous kings life.
The present king was blind
For now was the time that strife will control his life.
He blames his brother for conspiring
And even said a prophet was lying.
Though the clueless Oedipus did not know
He was the liar in this story.
How could he blame Creon for wanting glory.
The wife stops this altercation.
But starts her own with the curious Oedipus.
She storms off, ashamed because she finally knows the truth.
A messenger makes it worse with his talk of Oedipus as an infant.
The swollen footed baby was Oedipus.
When Oedipus realizes the truth he realizes he’ll be sent into exodus.
His wife but also mother is ahead of the game.
In shame she kills herself.
From a noose she hung.
Her life thrown away like she almost did her son.
Oedipus blinds himself.
He’d been blind all along.
Now Apollo speaks once more.
The punishment, from which Oedipus gave, was his own.
This is the tale of a man who knew nothing.
He answered a riddle upon his coming.
To Thebes he returned, now pronounced king.
Killer of his father, such a dreadful thing.
Now he’s banished from his own home.
To Mount Cithaeron he will roam.
