Success Comes in My Color

Wed, 08/07/2013 - 13:26 -- JoByrd

Who am I?

That's right,  a Black Woman !

That Condoleezza Rice, the Oprah  Winfrey, Michelle Obama type.

A woman who has came from the stories

for working in the times of slavery

to fight for the rights so I, me could be free from these chains, setting me free.

I come from a color that we have so many stereotypical burdens

that's it's killing our society , leaving our race in ashes and ruins

I choose to be that  the difference in the bunch

The Success Story.

I don't let the streets play me.

 I play the streets.

I may live in the ghetto,

but that doesn't stop me.

The ghetto gives me a better reason to shine

to know that I've got to get on my grind

and take the time

to do what's right.

make a change

be a change.

I don't let the stereotypes become me

i flip the story

They say our race is loud...

You damn right !

I'm loud to shout out to the world that I am here

I'm loud to tell this story of me

I'm loud because I'll never let the mind of the incompetent keep me silent

They say we'll never amount to anything...

Ha !

Look at me,  I'm a black woman, sixteen

and I know what I want to be

Making Straight A's

wants to go to Harvard University

I have supporters with me

Who would fight and go to war for me.

But you say our race will never be success story?

You've got to be kidding me.

Success, it comes in my color.

You thought it was a dream that a Black could never be

Face the Fact, I just brought your dreams into reality

Because I will be that change in your imagery

I am the Success Story.
