The Tale of a Hero

At last the young man makes up his mind:

To give his life and defend his nation.

To leave his sweet family loving and kind.

To train with and join an elite congregation.

The man is committed and selfless

To protect the weak and the helpless.

He trains day and night,

So that he won’t lose the fight.

He aids the soldier to his left and the one to his right.

This extraordinary team develops resolve

To destroy evil and usher in the light.

At the end of the day, when the battle ceases

The men’s emotions are dashed to pieces.

Each man has his own struggle,

But they all wish to be home with their families and snuggle.

When his duties are done and it’s time to return

It’s as if the world has left him behind.

He must adjust to the world and take time to learn

Yet he does not regret the contract he signed.

The man and his life have changed forever

Yet some in his town never thank him for his endeavour.
