Thank You

When I speak, you listen but don't hear

My words touch you, but don't wound you

When I cry, you see but don't feel

My tears wash you, but don't cleanse you

When I try, you witness but don't notice

My efforts help you, but don't please you

When I failed, you reminded me

My defeat was your success

So when I smile, I don't credit you

My happiness isn't your accomplishment

When I triumph, I don't reward you

I dragged myself out of the darkness

But when I remember you, I don't accuse you

I thank you, realizing I had to endure you to learn to enjoy myself
