There is Beauty in Imperfection

Sun, 03/16/2014 - 19:34 -- korrine

We can never be good enough for society

So long as we’re not perfect.

Because perfection is beauty –

Or so the world claims.

But what the world fails to see is the beauty of imperfection.

Imperfection is what drives us to conquer our shortcomings

And overcome our barriers.

Perfection demands nothing from us,

While imperfection demands that we sacrifice everything,

Dedicating ourselves to strengthening our weaknesses.

There is beauty found in the sweat, blood, and tears

Of hard work as we strive to improve.

But we have nothing to reach for

If we are already perfect.

Imperfection offers us the opportunities that we seek,

Opportunities to change and become someone different,

Someone better.

The world needs to change and

Redefine its definition of beauty,

So that it may see the beauty in imperfection.

And the sooner we realize that we don’t have to be perfect,

The sooner we can stop trying to be perfect,

And start trying to be good.
