Together, We Are Healthy

I love you like the sound of raindrops on my window.

The soft gentle lulling of a pull back into sleep,

It is the way you hold me before you say goodnight.

Because I love you, nightmares don't exist, it’s quiet.

I love you like the melody of an orchestra.

The light-footed dance that pushes me forward, happy,

It is the way you smile, caring when you see my face.

Because I love you, the beat of my heart is a song.

I love you like the promise of something sugar sweet.

The aching want, stilling my flesh, unable to move,

It is the way you touch me after a day apart.

Because I love you, I hold on unwilling to stop.

I love you like the volume of a crowded airport.

The push and pull of bodies before you board a flight,

It is the way we argue, desperate, fighting, gone.

Because I love you, apologies come soon after.

I love you like the steady flame of a trick candle.

The heat of a fire refusing to be extinguished,

It is the way we support each other, determined.

Because I love you, we are strong, steel, unwavering.

Because I love you, I know you love me, without words.
