Tone It Down

It seems our progression has slowed…..

Instead of moving forward as a whole, we rather carry on about skin tones, alienating our own, taking away that shoulder that was once there for our brother to lean on.

And they wonder what we be on……

Is it the money, The drugs, the guns the thugs, is it the college, or just a plain old lack of knowledge that  have us believing  that one shade is better than another?  Social media serves as a medium in which these ignorant minds meet. Poundsign team dark or light skin to get you a couple retweets. Caught up in a fad, not realizing we’re setting ourselves back

We’re straying far off track……….

And no it’s not the mollies that have you sweatin, but the fact that you keep forgettin that this problem lies inside you. You won’t confront the mirror although your pain couldn’t be clearer, so you hurt your fellow man that’s beside you.  Simply put, its vacant esteem at its best, the pain, the anguish, the guilt felt surrounding your flesh.

We’ve taken old wounds and made them fresh….

But see, this here goes back, three hundred years to be exact, to the days of slaves, workin under murderous sun rays. To strange fruits that bear a stench, back to letter from Willie Lynch. In which he describes ways to keep slaves under control. Put emphasis on skin tone and they will battle amongst their own.

This was once a problem that we had outgrown……

These days we rather bicker and fight over dark and light, glorify ignorance in return for likes. To the real issues we remain blind, been freed of shackles but still a slave to that plantation in our minds, it seems like time just rewind.

And yet here we are, skin tone got us divided amongst ourselves.

No need for a slave master when the slaves are whipping themselves.

Let’s tone it down……
