Try Swinging On A Star

Location

Why me? What can I do? Why am I more deserving than others for financial elevation? I’m not.
I’m just a girl with dreams of making a difference
But I want anyway.
I want to erode my own name out into history
Wear away at it
Slowly make changes that will last for decades
Change too quickly and there will always be people who want things back to how they used to be. Change slowly and they won’t even remember living any differently.
I want to look upon a sprawling field of green grass and the most famous White House in the entire nation every day I go to work.

Why is the sky the limit, when we’ve landed on Mars?
I want to reach for the stars and land in the Milky Way
I’m happy for the name Waxtein
To be a simple footnote history
My legacy will not be my name but my actions
Lincoln said to free the slaves, but Grant was the one to do it
Presidents, Senators, Congressmen They never got there on their own
Someone had to help Someone had to oversee I want to be that person
A leader is only a leader because one person chose to follow.

Nothing lasts forever, this I know
Rome fell
The gods of old perished
Even stars die out eventually, their light ceasing to touch the lives of millions of people
But I want my light to reach others just a little longer.
I want, and I want, and I want.
I have the Drive
the Will
the Tenacity
I just need to get there first.

I want to make a difference, to inspire, to make a change.
I’m not doing this for name recognition
(Although that would be nice)
I want to look at the world
When I’m 40, 50, 60, hunched over
Almost done
And say “This is what I did. This is my gift to you
I don’t need to be the face of a campaign, firmly entrenched on the ground.
I don’t need to be blinded by cameras, their light illuminating but burning just as great as any Sun.
I’m happy to have the freedom of
The shadows and the sky.
I don’t want to be stuck on the ground
Swinging on stars
May be dangerous
I might fall back down to Earth
But still I’ll try swinging on stars
Because the tragedy is not falling
The tragedy is never giving yourself a chance to
Shine.
