Two Deaths

Once upon a midnight dreaming a lady ran by me screaming;

screaming “BLOODY MURDER!”

I was dreaming the lady screaming had found a body streaming;

streaming bloody, gory murder.

Turning from the body streaming, I faced red eyes that were gleaming;

gleaming bloody, gory, gruesome murder.

It so demeaning; was now seeming that my life had awful meaning;

meaning bloody, gory, gruesome, instant murder.

This wasn’t dreaming. I awoke to a light brightly beaming.

Fitzy Marlote

Written back in high school; the assignment had been to write a poem inspired by The Raven. It's also the only one I've ever gotten published.
