UNITY

UNITY

I was weary

Of the police shootings

Of facebook live videos that showcase the death of my people

Of feeling misunderstood in a raucous family

But I’m not alone

Don’t shoot him

I frantically click the “x” button

Fearful for my personal safety

And those I hold dear

But I’m not alone

Black, white, rich or poor

Slavery and segregation still seemed permanent

No wrong last forever

Triumph from tragedy

But I’m not alone

The struggles for freedom

Again and again and again

I’m very aware of what’s going on

It’s the story of who we are

But I’m not alone

Our magic, our vocies, our glory

and the power we hold.

Hold onto your dreams and keep the faith

Because you are not alone.
