Unity Among Us

Right now theres a little girl
fighting for her life in a hospital bed
there's a little boy fighting a war
seeing things no man should see
there's a teenage girl who lost her dad
Lost within her personal agony
and a teenage boy doing drugs
hiding from the demons inside
there's a mom
screaming at an impassive sky
a dad lost within his mind
no longer able to withstand the trials of life

we miss love when its gone
we cry when all we should do is laugh
we ask when we want
were silent as we need

everyday we carry around our burdens
the death of a family
the sacrifice of a child
the depths of emptiness
the loss of control and will of life

the level of lows are as deep and dark
as space itself
we pretend
hoping that out of pretence
truth and freedom will arise
were locking ourselves from within
burrowing without knowing
blaming each other
blaming god
blaming ourselves

we've decided to stop trying
stop fighting
stop willing
were hoping someone else will do the work
Carry the burden

one day we will understand
we will see
what our fear has led us to do
what our comfortablility has killed

We live
we laugh
we cry
we scream
we plead
we blame
we love
we experience
We suffer
We die

we are human
and there's no changing that
Everyday theres something else
There's someone else
We say were fighting
But its for ourselves
How can we win this war
This war of inequality
Of 'human nature'
When we are all fighting battles within oursleves
All unable to look past our transgressions
And unable to see
That were in this together
Because if one block falls
From
This carefully constructed pyramid of
Life
the rest will tumble down
We act as if we can control it
We act as if the battles don't matter
we fight for ourselves
not knowing why

Right now theres a little girl
fighting for her life in a hospital bed
there's a little boy fighting a war
seeing things no man should see
there's a teenage girl who lost her dad
Lost within her personal agony
and a teenage boy doing drugs
hiding from the demons inside
there's a mom
screaming at an impassive sky
a dad lost within his mind
no longer able to withstand the trials of life

Right now there's a person
Wondering
Hoping
Wishing
Wanting
Right now theres a person
Acting
Fighting
Conquering
Right now there's a person
Falling
Defeated
Giving up
Worn out
Tossed away
Right now there's a person

Right now there's a person reading this
Unsure of how to act
Hispanic
Asian
Black
White
Australian
European
Young or old
Male or female

Right now there's a person reading this
Who will act
Who will fight for others
Who will lead
Who will love others
Who will cry
Who will bring joy to others

Right now there's a little girl
Dancing as she runs out of the hospital
There's a little boy dropping the gun
Not allowing his life to be controlled by voices unseen
theres a teenage girl taking solace in her mom
Living to make her father proud
And a teenage boy flushing the powders and dried herbs
Facing the demoms inside
There's a mom
Finding life within her pain
A dad looking back
And thanking god for the trials of life that he survived
