Unprepared

Location

When you are little,
They never tell you how difficult life gets.
They don't tell you that losing someone
Near and dear to your heart,
Would be so painful.
They don't teach you how to deal with the loss
Of your aunt, the one who named you and helped raise you.
They don't tell you how hard it would be,
To lose your grandma too;
so close to your heart, who even shared a bed with you.
They don't teach you how to handle it
knowing that they were both taken from you.

They don't teach you how hard it would be
To deal with the hollow emptiness left in your chest;
That hole that only your loved one could fill.
For with whom you had shared more than a house,
But a room, a love for family and fun.
They don't teach you how to cope
After losing your best friends since your birth.

They don't teach you how to handle it
when your close-knit family starts falling apart
because the glue is now gone.
They can't prepare you for your relatives,
once extremely close, now look in the mirror,
and they are fighting and hating each other.

They don't teach you about growing up;
that once you're in high school,
it's not just a walk in the park anymore.
That you will get your heart broken,
that your first love may not necessarily be your last.
They don't teach you how to tell the good ones
from the bad.

But then again,
How could they?
No one can experience life for you,
There are just some things, that unfortunately,
You just have to find out for yourself.
