The Unrealistic Eight Hours

Research says

Teens need eight hours of sleep-

Eight hours for the body to recharge

Eight hours to delve into our mind

And dream of whimsical ideas.

But then I wonder,

Why do teachers

Pile on homework like rocks

Until we have

The weight of a mountain on our shoulders?

The clock ticks mockingly.

The big hand is on the 12

And the little hand is on the 3

When my eyelids give up

And flutter to a stop.

The metaphor "weight of a mountain on our shoulders" is my favorite part of this poem.
