In Vain (I refuse)

Freed from shackles, freed from chains

I won’t allow their freedom to be in vain

I proclaim my emancipation

And with no need for written expression

I will rise above my oppression

Both systematic and circumstantial

Physical, mental, verbal and financial

I refuse to be bonded

I refuse to chained

I won’t let history repeat itself again

Their blood runs through my veins

Their cries and screams fill my brain

I shall spark the change

Because I refuse to let their death be in vain
