All was in vain

We knew it

Our hearts have fractured

But only I am pierced  by the shards

Now words are exchanged

You didn’t know how you spoke

Through the emptiness of your eyes

And the hardly concealed truth

We were not robbed of eternity

For eternity is no place for us

We knew it was but a dream

Only a consolation

Merely to pacify humanity

I know how you hurt

I know that you are drowning,

Have been drowning

In this world of ignorance

Of Hate

You don’t reach for help

Because I can’t help you

Nor would you grab my hand

Because you know better

Than to cling to society

You don’t belong in a world like this

You deserve better

As you sink lower inside your fragmented heart

To ponder the unspeakable

The unthinkable

Our bond was strong

But not durable

Our bond was close

But distanced

Because we both knew

You could never entrust me

With your conscious

With the lurking thoughts

That would horrify the bystanders

What they don’t know

What I can’t fathom

I slip further from you

They say you are drowning

But I know in this material world

In this retched mind set

In my simple mind

I am the one who has drowned

This poem is about:
Me
