Warmth in the Air

The air is cold

There she sits

Tiny legs adangle

Waiting

Persistent cough

Tick of the clock

Body aches

Thump of her heart

Fever...

The door opens

Her name spoken as a question

The white coat approaches

Restless jitters

Shallow breaths

Trust suspended

A tear settles in the corner of her eye

A smile

A silly song

The ice is broken

Fright melts

The exam begins

I want to be the warmth in the air

Wearing the white coat
