We Need To Change Our Welcome Sign

Location

What has become of us?

When did we stop being the 'land of the free?'

When did we stop being 'the melding pot of all nations?'

Were we ever?

If I were to change one thing, it would be our little welcome to those on the outside of these boarders.

Why?

We don't want you anymore, huh?

No. America doesn't want to help, to expand- not anymore.

And what a harsh, sad, pitiful reality that is.

That once a place offering FREEDOM for ALL- now is a place of oppression.

Bet Uncle Sam is proud. People here can all acheive the American dream.

As long as you're white, right?

And straight as a post.

Believe in the same God.

View the same issues.

As long as you don't really need help.

When did Lady Liberty start lying? How long has she held that sign? You think if she was real, she would etch it out of her own steel flesh?

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Too tired to work? Leave.

You want to be free? Did you read the terms and conditions?

Nobody wants to give you a home anymore.

The golden door turned everyone's fingers green.

Our welcome is a lie.

While we, the young, the rebellious, the NEW America- wish to let you live and love here, we are but part of your minority.

We need change.

So let us start with the sign,

"Land of the free who can pay their way in. Who can work, keep the peace, and stay numb. Welcome are those who don't mind being censored, controled, and submissive. Welcome to those who are just like us."

Maybe one day, the big guys will go back to the way America was SUPPOSED to be.

Until then, what I want to change- is the lie on our nation's welcome mat.
