What Happens in a Year?

It's amazing, isn't it?

How the years can fly by in the blink of an eye,

But minutes seem to crawl at a snail's pace.

It's amazing how much can happen in a year.

For many others, the past year has changed them greatly.

Though for me, it seems as though not much has changed.

I still can't shake the seductive influence of my bed in the mornings.

I still get too upset when things get out of control for me.

I'm still too afraid of making mistakes so I bearly try.

I still prefer to stay inside rather than going out.

I'm still trying to balance on a thin line.

And I still have too much pride to admit that I need help sometimes.

In many ways, I've not changed much.

But, I've also learned some things this past year.

I've learned that my mistakes are not failures, but they're stepping stones to my success.

I've learned that it's okay to strike out a few times because you'll be more prepared when you step up to the plate again.

I've also learned that the weight of the world is not meant to be carried on the back a single child.

I've learned that I'm just a human, trying too hard to make things work.

So, I haven't made any huge leaps or bounds in terms of change.

But I'm still learning.

I'm still improving.

Maybe next year some rough edges will be sanded down.

But until then, I've still got a lot of learning to do.
