What I Want For Breakfast

Thu, 06/27/2019 - 23:42 -- AshB201

Every kid wants to have candy for breakfast

I am allowed to do that now

Every kid wants to have cake for breakfast

I am allowed to do that now

Every kid wants to have ice cream for breakfast

I am allowed to do that now

Every kid wants to have chocolate for breakfast

I am allowed to do that now

It is what we think being an adult is

Because

“You can do what you want when you are an adult”

You never see an adult being denied candy

Or being told

“You can’t have cake”

They are adults

They can have whatever they want for breakfast

They will never be stopped

But then the day comes

When candy for breakfast brings sorrow

When cake for breakfast leads to regret

When ice cream for breakfast causes disappointment

When chocolate for breakfast comes with a side of guilt

When I choose to eat my greens for breakfast

That is when I realize I am no longer a kid
