What I Wouldn't Do

Location

What I wouldn’t do to be heard

Just for a moment for someone to understand

My voice is not strong

My words do not carry

But their meaning does

They echo in the eerie silence of the night

Heavy in my heart and in my mind

I desire nothing more than for them to hear me out

My parents

My brother

My teachers

My teammates

All I want is a chance to make them see

This is not what I chose

It was not a request

It is not a phase

It is not a result of the way I was raised

Loving me is not a novelty I am not a novelty

I am not a stereotype to be made fun of

What I wouldn’t do to be heard

Just for a moment for someone to empathize

With my situation

To see that I am no different

That the way I love is exactly the same as anyone else

That who I love does not determine the capacity I have to love them

I am standing up

They see that I am standing for something

But they cannot understand what it is

I am showing that I believe

But what I wouldn’t do to be able to tell them why

My voice is not strong

My words do not carry

But their meaning does

So please

Strain your ears just once to hear my whispers

It would mean the world to me

And my words may mean the world to you
