What it Means to Me

My Whole Life

I grew up thinking

Making a difference

Instead of sinking

Into a workforce

That had no meaning

For I was made to risk it all

To save the lives of those who fall

And through the thick white smoke

With embers bursting around my face

I will not choke

It is a race

A baby's cry

Echoes from upstairs

I will not let her mother's hope die

Her family waits outside, beginning to grow impatient

As the house begins to crumble and tear

I begin to realize

I do not care

About the risk involved with saving

The life of a loving family's baby

I wrap my arms around her body

And as I turned around to flee

I saw a collar with a name engraved, "Scotty"

I rushed the baby to her mother

And without hesitation returned to grab another

Who could not help himself escape

I looked high and low

Far and Wide

Then I saw the little dog

Under a table trying to hide

His leg was limp

He could not walk

I scooped him up

His eyes filled with shock

As we neared the front door

The roof smacked down on the floor

i made one last effort to dive to the exit

And the whole famly was affectionate

Giving me thanks for saving their loved ones

Nothing could ever be so rewarding

One Job May Change My Life.
