To me, poetry means coming out of your shell,
Opening your world to other people,
Expressing yourself, being yourself.

Writing poetry is just another way of crying,
Without having to use your tear ducts.

You may run out of tears,
But with poetry, you never run out of words.

You can grieve,
You can pray,
You can count on poetry to be there for you.

I remember the first time I used poetry,
I needed to vent, let it out all,
Poetry has always been here for me,
Like a best friend.

It was four years ago,
In stinking eighth grade.

So many hardships in one year,
So many tears I couldn’t cry,
I found myself putting ink on paper,
Words just coming out of me.

I never actually think when I write,
I just let myself run,
Let the pen control the paper,
Let my mind run freely.

Poetry is no chore,
Poetry is not a hobby,
Poetry is life.

Poetry is what keeps me going when
I am down and blue.

Poetry keeps me alive and breathing,
Even through the gray.

I write to express
All the things I have gone through:
Friends leaving,
Betrayal,
School,
Everything.

Poetry is always there,
And it helps to know,
That even when I don’t got you,
I’ve got a paper and pen to fall back on.
