When I Close My Eyes

I did not have a dream

I know what dreams are like

I was not even sleeping

And those usually come at night

The first was of a boy

Curly haired and tall

I'd never seen him before

I don't know him at all

He rode along the sidewalk

Skating back and forth

Smiling at me lovingly

As if I were a mother of some sort

The second was a wedding

And though I sat in the isle

The groom was too familiar

I had often seen that smile

I had not seen my sister

But it was always meant to be

Aside from being some kind of Maid

The atmosphere was happy

The third was most confusing

A terrifying scare

It seemed to be the devil's child

With really long black hair

She reminded me of a serpent

Though her face was pale-ish grey

The wind was blowing roughly

But she refused to go away

I saw these things not sleeping

I saw them all awake

I closed my eyes just for a moment

And only a moment they would take

As I've thought about them I've realized

Although we've never met

The time of day these things take place

Maybe I just haven't seen them yet

What if the skater is my son?

The groom my brother in law?

As for the demon I had seen

An evil I foresaw
