Where I'm From

Where I’m From

I come from happiness

I’m from love

I come from a society

A society made up of pessimists

And everyone wonders what’s wrong

But what’s wrong is us;

We don’t help others

Who can’t help themselves.

We step on others

So that we may excel.

It’s never our fault

But the fault of someone else.

“The grass is greener on the other side.”

But why don’t we focus on the side less green?

Stop worrying about what you have to gain.

Stop taking pills so that you’ll feel sane

Sometimes it gets hard to breath

In a world full of so much hate.

WaaaaeeeYooooo! WaaaaeeeYooooo!

Can you see the inequality?

Can you see the police brutality?

I’m ashamed of my society.

It’s everything I’m not

And nothing I want to be.

Land of the free

Home of the Brave

But aren’t the brave here to make you feel safe?

But instead we’re scared

And we are hiding inside.

No four walls to hide behind.

Hiding inside the jail we call our mind

And forced to color inside the lines.

But why must we fit inside the box?

We follow the road they tell us to get on

Just to get lost.

How does victory taste?

You did it only to win the race.

God forbid you come in second place

You have to be number one

Or you’ll never be loved.

That’s what society tells everyone.

I’m from my society.

We inhale and exhale exhaust.

Pollution filling our lungs.

Smelling the cancerous fumes from someone else.

They say they’ll stop

Or laugh as if life is a joke.

We are slowly dying

Yet no one is trying

I’m from my society.
