Who Are You To Say?

Location

I have a friend

He is gay

He is a son, a brother, a lover, a friend

He is smart, funny, and puts a smile on everyone's face when he talks about how he will change the world

Who are you to say that he is an Abomination?

I know a girl

She is a Christian

She is a daughter, a sister, a lover, a friend

She lives her life to do good and loves all of God's creations with her whole heart every day

Who are you to say that she is a Bigot?

I know a boy

He has Down Syndrome

He is a son, a brother, a friend

He is kind and gentle with no sense of wrong in our world because he made the world his own a long time ago

Who are you to say that he is a Mistake?

There is a man

He sits at a bus stop everyday with a sign that says, "homeless"

He is a son, a brother, a friend, maybe even a father

He smiles at everyone and has a blessing for anyone who walks by, asking nothing in return

Who are you to say that he is Lazy?

There is a girl

She is from a land far away

She is a daughter, a sister, a lover, a friend

She cannot understand me like you can, but she is kind and well read and can say more in three words than I could say in three hundred

Who are you to say that she is Not Welcome?

Who are you to say that someone is Worthless because of their income?

Who are you to say that someone is Evil because of the choices they make for their own body?

Who are you to say someone is Lesser because of the color of their skin or the shape of their eyes?

Who are you to say Anything about anyone?

I am a girl

I want to be a doctor some day

I am a daughter, a sister, a virgin, a friend

I am hideous, beautiful, smart, dumb, fat, skinny, right, and wrong

I am a dreamer, a scholar, a woman, a child, a Person

I am One Person

One Person of a nation of People of the World

I will not be silent

I will scream, kick, and shout for my People to be heard

And who are you to say that I should be anything Different?
