Who I Am Because You Were, Are, and Will Become

Because you were friends with a couple of Britons,

Because you wanted to help girls help their country and others,

Because you founded Girl Scouts.

Because you were encouraged to explore science by your Brownie troop,

Because you were one of the first Hispanics to get a Masters of Science from Stanford,

Because you became one of NASA's finest rocket scientists,

Because you stepped up as interim CEO of GSA.

Because your own mother was your troop leader,

Because you are now my troop leader,

Because you sold enough cookies to backpack through Alaska for two weeks,

Because you encouraged me to sell cookies and go to London for ten days,

Because you believe in the organization,

Because you recognize your own Girl Scout mentors,

Because you push me to be involved and make use of my own connections and skills.

Because of all that,

I am a Girl Scout.

I am a member of River Valleys Girl Scout Council's Girl Leadership Board.

I am already planning a trip to the New York City GSA headquarters.

I have my lifetime membership.

I am a Bronze, Silver, and soon to be Gold Award Recipient.

I am one of the top ten Girl Scout Cookie Sellers in my council of 9,000 girls.

I will be in the top five percent of American Girl Scouts when I finish my Gold Award project.

I see the value of my experiences and friendships.

Because of all of that,

I am grateful.
