"Who's that girl in the mirror? Who do you see?"

The words my mother sang to put me to sleep,

Creating fantasies that I can no longer keep.

Will someone help me? I'm in too deep.

Awake at night,

My brain is buzzing.

Imagination takes flight,

In this snow white night.

Boxing with bed-sheets,

Snow outside yet I'm in scorching heat,

Too scared to leave out my feet

For monsters to eat.

BA-BANG!

Lightning sputtering like gunfire.

Dressed in my night attire,

I look in the mirror,

But what I see is not me.

Am I dangerous as the heat of the bed-sheets?

Am I cold and pure like the winter snow?

Am I wild and free like a buzzing bee?

Am I the perfect child my parents want?

Am I just another victims for instigators to taunt?

I'm not like them?

What am I?

I see myself, but I don't see ‘me’.

The me I try to refuse to hide.

My insecurities just won't let me be.

Deep in my heart, I always sing,

" Who's that girl in the mirror? Who do you see?"
