She asked me as we walked
Side by side
As if equals.

Do I always look sad?
I asked in response,
Knowing the answer
That comes with it.

Yes.
That was all she said
As she stared
Into my blackened eyes.

I couldn’t speak anymore
Just looked at the ground 
And kept walking,
She looked at me all the same.
