Winter is Here

Within the winter months,

Ice and snow cover the ground

But with this specific winter

Tears emerge all around

Discontent turns to ice

In hard-working men and women

Cement walls are discussed

And deportation notices are given

Within the frigid hours

I am a “liberal snowflake”

My blood turns to ice

And my muscles start to quake

The injustices in store

The oppression of the press

The silencing of youths

Despite the looming unrest

Accused of losing pride

In our “land of the free”

But attacks on domestic pride parades

Pluck frozen heart strings in me

I am not losing faith

In our “home of the brave”

But soon the winter is over

So what will remain?

This poem is about:
My country
