Wonderhouse

This mansion is a Wonderhouse,

a house that carries grace and elegance.

It's coated with old photos and portraits

of memories of the early century.

The faces of the people loom down upon passersby,

waiting to take a quick bite of emotion of those walking by.

They stare with lifeless,

opaque eyes that are intense,

yet dull.

They wait to feast upon some wondrous sight,

oblivious to the fact that they live in a Wonderhouse.

Most pictures are of wunderkind;

childlike faces with foolish grins pasted upon their fair,

sun-kissed faces.

Some are of elder people,

ever watching to make sure no one misbehaves.

An old beehive sits outside of this Wonderhouse.

Dormant and bored,

it sits waiting for some fuzzy,

stout honeybees to come and call it their home.

They never come.

A ghost sits in the rocking chair of this Wonderhouse.

It waits to hear the refreshing screams of a child's voice

when it sees the chair rocking back and forth,

back and forth,

by itself.

The spirit can be seen walking down the creaky,

18th century staircase occasionally.

A white dress,

fading out of sight.

It makes people blink twice.

Then it's gone.

The paint chips from the walls in this Wonderhouse.

The wallpaper peels with a disconcerting emotion in this Wonderhouse.

The beehive sits dormant.

The ghost sits bored.

The portraits hang crooked

and the pictures seem faded.

But a youthful mind still lives in this Wonderhouse.

On summer days,

you can feel the warm,

comforting breeze enter.

And you feel free,

vivacious.

And you think about the people who used to live in this Wonderhouse.

And you see the apparition float down the stairs,

and you stare out into the bright sunset,

watching her morning elegance go down with grace.

This mansion is a Wonderhouse.
