Now as a young runt,
I couldn’t control the beating
or pain fleeting.
Have you ever hurt or harassed the soul?
Such happened that day and much more.
I felt used, robbed,
a broken down, corner liquor store.
Then, I found books.
I was opened to wild world of Whitman.
No rules, only beautiful words.
I learned from giants like C. S. Lewis.
A man who thought on God beyond our human lenses
I saw human nature in Arthur Miller.
What is the spirit and the dream behind all of us here?
These are the lessons I learned.
The stripes I earned.
I’m going to the uphill battle.
I have words as my weapons.
I am my damn mind.
Free of all.
Free for myself.
Free at last.
