Yo Te Quiero, Abuelita!

Yo te quiero, Abuelita!

The smell of freshly baked tortillas

Drifts through the small home

Old and well-worn chairs are scattered

Throughout the living room

Thousands of board games

Litter the tables and the floor

Small figurines of Mother Mary

Stand on every surface

Pictures of every known relative

Hang on the textured walls

A black prayer notebook

Lies on her bed stand

Three cats climb on the furniture

And crawl between your legs

Cousins play Nintendo games together

In each of the spare bedrooms

Only the beautiful language

Of Spanish is spoken here

Where the love for one person

Gathers all of us near

Yo te quiero, Abuelita!

I love you, Grandma!
