You Say, I Say

You Say, I Say

You say I should be the perfect

I say, I am trying

You say don’t make any mistakes on the field

I say, I am trying

You say, love the game you play with all your heart and make it light a fire in you

I am trying

You say, make straight A’s and I will be happy

I say I am trying

You say, you have such a bright future ahead of you

I say, are you sure? Do I?

You say I should be perfect

I say, I am trying

You say don’t make any mistakes on the field

I say I am trying

You say, love the game you play with all your heart and make it light a fire in you

I say, I do love the game, I do, but the fire is burning out

You say, make straight A’s and I will be happy

I say, I will do my best but you must understand it is hard

You say, you have such a bright future ahead of you

I say, are you sure? Do I?

The thing is you think everything is so easy

I know everything is not

I know I make it seem like I am happy all the time

But it is just a façade

It is hard to be happy but it is easy to hide it

I work, I go to school, I play a sport

It isn’t easy

My future seems like a plan that I have written down step by step but little do they know it is a blurry

Cloud

You say be happy

I say I am trying

I will show you what you want to see

But know that underneath I cry out for help

You say be happy

I say I am trying

You say I am always so happy and filled with laughter

I say it helps me feel happier

You say do you have any flaws? I don’t see them

I say I have many, but I won’t let you see

You say one thing

I say another

I need you to see what I see

I can’t explain to you but I can show you

You say, I say
