Young

Young and careless.
Back when all was done was waking up and having fun.
When five dollars seemed like a million bucks.
When a kids meal toy was all you wanted.
When it was easy to get over anything and smile.

Young and curious.
Back when independence became the thing.
When the "emo phase" was cool.
When you wanted your parents to stay out of your life.
When all you wanted to do was be mad.

Young and stressed.
Back when you worried about the future.
When everyone asked, "what do you want to be?"
When your parents waited for you to move out.
When all you could do was frown.

Young and broke.
What happened to back then?
Why can't things be simple as it has been before?
Why must I pay so much for so little?
Why must I starve myself day to day just to get the education I need?
Why must I spend countless hours studying only to fail?

Growing up was all that was wanted when we were young.
The implications and situations of growing up didn't cross our minds.
Bills and tuition.
Payments and starvation.
Making ends meet only to survive another semester seems insane.
Even after all that's happened.
All you're seen as is young.
